Capt Andre Vautour

Captain Andre Vautour has been with 199 Squadron since it was re-opened in 2003, serving as the CO, DCO, Unit Human Rights Advisor and Marksmanship Coach.

He was born February 22 1972, the oldest child of Diane and Adrien, in Toronto Ontario. The family including brothers Eric and Damien moved around the Toronto area until settling in North Bay in 1979. North Bay is where Andre got his start in cadets, as a member of Navy League. After ageing out he joined 547 Royal Canadian Air Cadets. He attended summer training in Trenton eventually receiving a position as a staff cadet. In 1992 Andre began volunteering with 547 RCACS and in 1993 became an Officer Cadet. As an officer he attended training in Borden, Trenton and Edmonton reaching his current rank of Captain.

In 1998 Andre moved to Winnipeg and joined 176 RCACS spending summers in Penhold Summer Training Centre employed in many positions including computer services, flight and Squadron Commander. In 2003 he moved here to 199RCACS as the Deputy Commanding Officer. He continues to work at summer training centres, currently as a Squadron Commander for Senior Leaders Course in Cold Lake. Among his achievements he is a unit human rights advisor, range safety officer, holds his Wilderness First Aid certificate and is the coach of one of our top ranked marksmanship teams in Manitoba.

Andre was appointed the Commanding Officer of 199 Squadron from May 2007 to May 2011. He remained with 199 Squadron in the role of Administration Officer and Marksmanship Training Officer.

When Andre is not at cadets he works for the St James School Division with Special Needs Students and is involved in Amateur radio. This hobby has him volunteering with Amateur Radio Emergency Services, providing communications in the event of communication breakdown in times of disaster, and providing assistance for community events.
