Start of 2016/17 Training Year

posted Aug 26, 2016, 10:04 AM by 199 St Vital RCACS

Summer break is coming to an end and the Cadet year is right around the corner. We hope you have all enjoyed your summer whether it was spent at a Summer Training Centre, a family vacation, experiencing your first summer job or just relaxing at home and taking a break.

With the end of summer comes the start of our training year. We will be having our administration night on September 8th from 1845hrs – 2100hrs. This year we will start the night with a briefing by the Commanding Officer and follow up with the annual information verification. Members from the Band, Drill and Marksmanship teams will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have about their respective programs. Cadets in Levels 1 through 4 are expected to be finished by 2000hrs, all Level 5+ Cadets will remain until 2100hrs for a Training Briefing.

Be prepared to confirm that we have all your current information on file and let us know of any changes. You will also have the opportunity to deal with any discrepancies regarding your current rank or training level. Uniform related issues can be dealt with in Supply as we all know how much cadets can grow over the summer. Cadets are encouraged to bring their parents along as they are required to sign off on the annual validation form. Note that with the increased size of the squadron, some cadets have been assigned to new flights. The hard copy of this email has the details of your flight assignment

This year we are remaining at the training facilities at the Winnipeg South Osborne Legion, 426 Osborne Street in the South Osborne area. Cadets are reminded to enter by the front door only and take the staircase to the right to report to the Parade Square at the start of the night.

We may have had the summer off but we have still kept busy getting ready for this training year. We have been lining up some exciting content and delivery for our training program to give you all the best experience possible. This training will start on 15 Sept 2016 and will include an information session for new recruits and parents in addition to regular training for returning cadets. Dates for other mandatory and optional training activities have been attached to this e-mail.

Our program could not be run as effectively as it is without the support of our Sponsoring Committee. Formed mainly by parents of current and former Cadets they provide much needed support for optional activities and to enhance our mandatory training program. General meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month and Executive meetings on the 1st Thursday of each month. Elections for members of the Executive Committee will be held on Thursday 22 Sept 2016. All parents are encouraged to attend as this is your opportunity to have input into the squadron operations.

We have many exciting plans for this year and looking forward to seeing you all again. We are well set to deliver exciting interactive content and will provide many opportunities for advancement for you, our Cadets.

Take care,

Captain Andre Vautour, CD
Commanding Officer
199 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron (RCACS)

This provides an excellent opportunity for our Cadets to further develop their Community involvement and make some positive change within Canada.

All youth aged 16-24 years are welcomed to apply for membership. Applicants will be asked to fill out an online form in which they must provide background information on themselves, their community involvement, and ideas for Canadian youth.
